 No.1 You have to take off your shoes when you get into someone's house. But you don't have to do that when you get into shops or restaurants. Caution ! You have to take off your shoes when you step onto tatami mat even if it's in a restaurants. No.2 You have to do seiza when you meet someone first on tatami mat. You can sit at ease if you will be allowed to do so by the host. But agura isn't good when you are a woman. No.3 You should wash your body before you get into the buthtub when you take a bath. No.4 You should say "Arigatougozaimasu" or "Suimasen" when you are helped or given something. "Suimasen" is basically "I'm sorry.", but Japanese people use it often to show their tankfulness. "Doomo" is very comon word. You can say it to show your light thankfulness. No.5 You should talk in a small voice in a train or elevater etc. You can't talk with a cellphone in a train. No.6 You should give your seat to old people especially when you are sitting on the special seat. |
